Winners of the West Midlands Wildlife Photography Competition 2004
The WMBP ran the West Midlands Wildlife Photography Competition 2004 over the summer. The response was huge and after a long day considering the many beautiful shots sent to us, and with the help of award-winning photographer, Nick Garbutt, we can now reveal the winners.
There were four categories for budding photographers to enter, and we chose a winner and runner-up in each, and also awarded a highly commended mark to those photos we thought could not go without recognition. So, why not marvel at the results below, and plan your own entry for next year’s competition!
Overall West Midlands Wildlife Photographer 2004 is:
Shirley Hancox from Brownhills with her photo, Burnet Moth at Rest (below). She received a Sigma telephoto lens and close up lens.

Burnet Moth at RestA favourite with the judges due to the clever use of close-up photography and flash to highlight the irridescence of the moth and make this common species look tropical. This was actually taken in a local park demonstrating what amazing wildlife you can find in the West Midlands! |

By the Trent and ToadIt was just too close to call! The judges thought both deserved the winning title. The judges liked By the Trent (taken at Shugborough Estate) for its tranquil and idyllic vision of the heart of England. They also liked Toad for it's cheeky look and the excellent and interesting capture on film of a wild species. |
